The 28th Annual 4-H & FFA Thumb Jackpot Beef Show will be hosted in Sandusky, MI on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27, 2019. Sanilac County livestock exhibitors and their families are planning a fabulous show.
Thumb Jackpot Beef Education Program and Kirk Stierwalt are joining together to bring you “Kirk Stierwalt Fitting & Showmanship Clinic” on March 1st thru 3rd, 2019. Clinic is open to all beef youth. Family participation encouraged.
Join us on a 3-day event for the opportunity to learn day-to-day care of your cattle project. Also, gain clipping, fitting and showmanship experience while learning about the cattle industry. Participants are encouraged to bring their calves along to learn from one of the best in the industry through this “hands-on” experience and learning; however, it is not required for all participants to bring a calf.

Thumb Jackpot Beef Education Program
Planning has begun for hundreds of cattle to embark upon the Oakland County Fairgrounds at the Springfield County Park in Davisburg, MI for two cattle shows the weekend of April 20th-22nd, 2018.
The Oakland County Fairgrounds will host the 27th Annual 4-H & FFA Thumb Jackpot Beef Show on Saturday, April 21, 2018 and 3rd Annual Paul DeLong Memorial Jackpot Show on Sunday, April 22, 2018.
Exhibitors and their families who exhibit beef cattle from the seven counties in the Thumb (Macomb, Huron, Lapeer, St. Clair, Tuscola, Sanilac and Oakland) will enjoy a hot, family meal Friday evening. Cloverbud youth can participate in a coloring challege while their siblings check in and weigh cattle for the Saturday show.
During the heifer and steer show on Saturday, youth, families and spectators can bid on items for sale in a Chinese style auction that will raise money for the Paul DeLong Memorial Scholarship Fund. Right before the final drive for the steer show the Thumb Jackpot Beef Education Program (TJBEP) will present award recipients for the Essay Contest, Coloring Challenge, and high school seniors who are awarded scholarships to pursue their education beyond high school. Since 1997, TJBEP along with the Paul DeLong Memorial Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $71,750 to high school seniors.
On Sunday the Paul DeLong Memorial Jackpot Show will have youth from all over the state (and a few out of state) looking to win the cash payout of $500 for champion steer and heifer. This show is a fundraiser to raise money for the Paul DeLong Memorial Scholarship Fund.
This is a reminder the Thumb Jackpot Beef Education Committee will be accepting donation items for the live and silent auction that will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017. Donated items should be brought to the show barn on Saturday morning.
Remember to bring your semen tank! We have 100 units of donated semen that will be sold through our auction. Bring your tank and fill it with some new upcoming bulls or stay with a tried and true bull. The choice is yours! Listed below is the donated semen for auction:

On Friday, April 21, 2017 there is lots to do!
- Weigh-in is scheduled from 4:00-9:00 pm. Scales will close for 30 minutes for dinner.
- Our complimentary Family Night Dinner is scheduled from 5:30-8:00 pm.
- A Showmanship Clinic will be offered to youth from 7:00-9:00 pm in the barn. Come and learn a few new skills to use in the show ring. Basic and advanced showmanship skills will be covered. We are looking for 10 volunteers for to assist with demonstration purposes. Registration for both the Michigan 4-H Veterinary Science Teen and Adult Leaders Workshop and the Beef, Sheep and Swine Teen and Adult Leaders Workshops is OPEN! Attached is a flyer for each event.
The 4-H Veterinary Science Teen & Adult Leaders Workshop will be held February 17-18, 2017 at Kettunen Center. Explore animal systems and learn about animal health for a broad array of animal species while attending the workshop beginning with dinner Friday evening and ending Saturday afternoon. Come prepared to learn from others, share information and experiences, ask questions and quiz veterinarians about their careers. You will also participate in hands-on demonstrations that will teach you how to help members recognize healthy, sick, or injured animals. Meet other youth that have developed outstanding veterinary science projects and gain ideas to help others start their own vet science projects. The workshop is open to adult and teen volunteers ages 13 (as of January 1, 2017) and older and is supported by Greenstone Farm Credit Services. The 4-H Beef, Sheep & Swine Teen & Adult Leaders Workshop will be held February 18-19, 2017 at Kettunen Center. Topics include animal health update, nutrition, management, selection, careers, budgeting and personal development. The workshop offers ways to enhance communication and teaching skills, and learn about the many opportunities available for those interested in the beef, sheep and swine industries. The workshop begins with dinner Saturday evening and ends Sunday afternoon and is open to adult and teen volunteers ages 13 (as of January 1, 2017) and older.
