Planning has begun for hundreds of cattle to embark upon the Oakland County Fairgrounds at the Springfield County Park in Davisburg, MI for two cattle shows the weekend of April 20th-22nd, 2018.
The Oakland County Fairgrounds will host the 27th Annual 4-H & FFA Thumb Jackpot Beef Show on Saturday, April 21, 2018 and 3rd Annual Paul DeLong Memorial Jackpot Show on Sunday, April 22, 2018.
Exhibitors and their families who exhibit beef cattle from the seven counties in the Thumb (Macomb, Huron, Lapeer, St. Clair, Tuscola, Sanilac and Oakland) will enjoy a hot, family meal Friday evening. Cloverbud youth can participate in a coloring challege while their siblings check in and weigh cattle for the Saturday show.
During the heifer and steer show on Saturday, youth, families and spectators can bid on items for sale in a Chinese style auction that will raise money for the Paul DeLong Memorial Scholarship Fund. Right before the final drive for the steer show the Thumb Jackpot Beef Education Program (TJBEP) will present award recipients for the Essay Contest, Coloring Challenge, and high school seniors who are awarded scholarships to pursue their education beyond high school. Since 1997, TJBEP along with the Paul DeLong Memorial Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $71,750 to high school seniors.
On Sunday the Paul DeLong Memorial Jackpot Show will have youth from all over the state (and a few out of state) looking to win the cash payout of $500 for champion steer and heifer. This show is a fundraiser to raise money for the Paul DeLong Memorial Scholarship Fund.
