Reminder…Bring Donations and Semen Tank!

This is a reminder the Thumb Jackpot Beef Education Committee will be accepting donation items for the live and silent auction that will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017. Donated items should be brought to the show barn on Saturday morning.

Remember to bring your semen tank! We have 100 units of donated semen that will be sold through our auction.  Bring your tank and fill it with some new upcoming bulls or stay with a tried and true bull.  The choice is yours!  Listed below is the donated semen for auction:

Friday Night Show Schedule

On Friday, April 21, 2017 there is lots to do!

  • Weigh-in is scheduled from 4:00-9:00 pm. Scales will close for 30 minutes for dinner.
  • Our complimentary Family Night Dinner is scheduled from 5:30-8:00 pm.
  • A Showmanship Clinic will be offered to youth from 7:00-9:00 pm in the barn. Come and learn a few new skills to use in the show ring. Basic and advanced showmanship skills will be covered. We are looking for 10 volunteers for to assist with demonstration purposes. If you are interested in participating as a demonstration volunteer please text or call me at 810.694.0561 with your name, county, age and telephone number. I will get back with you regarding details.

2017 Paul DeLong Memorial Jackpot Show

The 2nd Annual Paul DeLong Memorial Jackpot Show will be held Sunday, April 23,2017 at the St. Clair County Fairgrounds (Goodell’s County Park).  Entries must be postmarked by April 7th.  The rules and entry form are available by clicking on the link below.

2017 4-H & FFA Thumb Jackpot Beef Show

26th Annual 4-H & FFA Thumb Jackpot Beef Show
The Thumb Jackpot Beef Education Program would like to announce the 26th Annual 4-H & FFA Thumb Jackpot Beef Show on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at St. Clair County Fairgrounds in Goodells. Exhibitors and their families are invited to the Family Night Social on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm. All food and beverages are complimentary.
Youth may participate in an Essay Contest. Cloverbuds can participate in a Color Challenge. Information on the Essay Contest, Color Challenge, Heifer and Steer Show rules and entry forms below.  All Forms are available by clicking on the link to the form below:

2017 4-H Beef Sheep and Swine Conference

To All 4-Hers,

Registration for both the Michigan 4-H Veterinary Science Teen and Adult Leaders Workshop and the Beef, Sheep and Swine Teen and Adult Leaders Workshops is OPEN!  Attached is a flyer for each event.

 

4-H Veterinary Science Teen & Adult Leaders Workshop

The 4-H Veterinary Science Teen & Adult Leaders Workshop will be held February 17-18, 2017 at Kettunen Center.  Explore animal systems and learn about animal health for a broad array of animal species while attending the workshop beginning with dinner Friday evening and ending Saturday afternoon.  Come prepared to learn from others, share information and experiences, ask questions and quiz veterinarians about their careers.  You will also participate in hands-on demonstrations that will teach you how to help members recognize healthy, sick, or injured animals.  Meet other youth that have developed outstanding veterinary science projects and gain ideas to help others start their own vet science projects.  The workshop is open to adult and teen volunteers ages 13 (as of January 1, 2017) and older and is supported by Greenstone Farm Credit Services.  Registration is now open at:  https://events.anr.msu.edu/4HBeefSheepSwineandVetScience/

4-H Beef, Sheep & Swine Teen & Adult Leaders Workshop

The 4-H Beef, Sheep & Swine Teen & Adult Leaders Workshop will be held February 18-19, 2017 at Kettunen Center.  This workshop is designed for both teen and adult leaders who are involved with beef cattle, sheep and swine projects.  Topics include animal health update, nutrition, management, selection, careers, budgeting and personal development.  The workshop offers ways to enhance communication and teaching skills, and learn about the many opportunities available for those interested in the beef, sheep and swine industries.  The workshop begins with dinner Saturday evening and ends Sunday afternoon and is open to adult and teen volunteers ages 13 (as of January 1, 2017) and older.  Support for the workshop is provided by Greenstone Farm Credit Services and the Michigan Pork Producers Association.  Registration is now open at:  https://events.anr.msu.edu/4HBeefSheepSwineandVetScience/
